U.S. Travel Association President and CEO Roger Dow issued the following statement on the Thursday announcement that Orlando International Airport (MCO) will be the first in the nation to implement full biometric technology for processing arriving and departing international travelers:

A biometric reader“The full implementation of this program—in the nation’s most-visited travel region, no less—is a great step in making travel more efficient throughout our system, and we applaud the innovative technology developed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

“Passengers traveling to and from Orlando will immediately enjoy a more efficient screening process and shorter wait times. This is also a win for our national security, as it provides an accurate way to identify individuals while combatting the use of falsified documents.

“The U.S. travel community is hopeful that biometric entry and exit systems will soon be implemented in airports nationwide, and commends the Greater Orlando Airport Authority for helping lead this endeavor.”
